Are you viable?

Are you viable or on your way to becoming the office dinosaur? I always say I lament the days when I used to leave the office and come back and be handed a pink piece of paper that said, “While you were out…” Those were such simple times. Now I have endless obligations to e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and my blog before I ever even talk to a real person. I need to stop whining. This is my new reality.

It used to be that you worked hard and expected a little respect for all you’d done. Now, the rule of the day is always, “What have you done for me lately?” If you aren’t actively defining your viability, you are painting yourself invisible. You know it’s true. If you think you can coast, you are so wrong. There is a new college graduate who is more technologically savvy and (probably) youthfully creative than you — and he or she will work for a third of what you expect. Viability is a constant call to redefine yourself within an ever-changing world of change.

I am going to explore this issue on the blog in coming months, but want to start with the first viability survey to see where you are with social media. Please take a few minutes for this — it’s only 20 questions.
